Video 1: Introductory Rites

During this video we look at what altar servers do during the first part of Mass, including the Procession, Introductory Rites and Liturgy of the Word. You’ll learn how to take part in the entrance procession, where to stand, and how to assist the priest during the Greeting, Penitential Rite, Gloria, and Opening Prayer. Emphasis is placed on reverence, posture, and understanding the meaning of the Introductory Rites as we prepare to enter into the celebration of the Eucharist.


Video 2: Liturgy of the Eucharist

During this video, altar servers learn their responsibilities during the Preparation of the Gifts and throughout the Liturgy of the Eucharist. You’ll see how to set the altar, present the bread and wine, assist during the hand washing, and serve with care and attentiveness during the Eucharistic Prayer and Communion Rite. This video highlights how servers help bring reverence to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.


Video 3: After Holy Communion

This video explains what altar servers do after Communion and the final part of the Mass. It covers assisting the priest or deacon after Communion, purifying vessels, and returning the chalice and other liturgical vessels from the altar to the credence table. You’ll also learn how to join the recessional procession and conclude the Mass prayerfully and reverently.


Video 4: Ringing the Bells

This video focuses on the proper use of the altar bells during the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Ringing the bell at Mass seems to be the favourite job for servers all over the world! In this video, you’ll learn when and how to ring the bells during the Eucharistic Prayer and tips for doing so reverently and confidently.
